About Dr. Randhir Sud

• Dr. Randhir Sud is the Chairman of the Department of Digestive & Hepatobiliary Sciences and a distinguished expert in Gastroenterology. Renowned for his pioneering efforts in establishing therapeutic GI Endoscopy and initiating the GI Oncology program in India, Dr. Sud was honored with the Padma Shri Award in 2008 for his outstanding contributions to the field. His specialization encompasses Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, GI Cancers, and Hepatic Diseases.
• Dr. Sud began his career as a Junior Resident at AIIMS, New Delhi, in January 1979, progressing to a Senior Residency role between 1982 and 1984. In 1985, he transitioned to a Consultant in Gastroenterology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi. Over his six-year tenure at AIIMS, he gained extensive experience teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. He is an approved faculty member and examiner for the Diplomate National Board Examination in Gastroenterology, conducted by the National Board of Examinations.
• Internationally recognized, Dr. Sud served as a visiting professor at Harvard Medical School in Boston in 1999, and later at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas, and the University of Alabama, Birmingham, in 2005. Dr. Sud completed his M.B.B.S at Government Medical College, Amritsar, in 1977, followed by an M.D. in Medicine from AIIMS in 1981, and a D.M. in Gastroenterology in 1983. Throughout his academic career, he earned numerous gold medals and other accolades for his exceptional performance in medical examinations.
