  • Dr. Bhaskar Viswanathan currently holds the position of Professor and Head of the Radiation Oncology Department at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Faridabad, Haryana. His academic journey began at Frank Anthony Public School, followed by his college education at National College in Bengaluru. In 1997, Dr. Viswanathan completed his MD training at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, one of India's premier cancer centers. A year later, in 1998, he pursued a clinical research project at Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, focusing on advanced cancer therapies.
  • He began his professional career in 1999 as an Assistant Professor at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, where he served for eight years. Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Viswanathan enhanced his knowledge by undertaking academic courses in Genetic Engineering and Human Molecular Genetics at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science. Additionally, he gained valuable research experience through specialized lab training at IVRI, Bengaluru.
  • In 2006, Dr. Viswanathan pursued further specialization by enrolling in a Clinical Fellowship at Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, Canada. Upon completion of this program, he returned to India in 2008, joining Vydehi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre in Bengaluru. Initially appointed as an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, he was later promoted to Professor, a role he diligently fulfilled until 2022. During his tenure, Dr. Viswanathan also participated in an advanced training program on hyperthermia techniques for treating breast and cervical cancers at Erasmus MC in the Netherlands in 2017.
  • In addition to his clinical and academic work, Dr. Viswanathan has made significant contributions to cancer treatment research. He pioneered the development of a robotic image-guided brachytherapy system for treating hepatic tumors, with Phase 1 clinical trials currently underway. His innovative work also extends to the establishment of a nanoparticle research laboratory, funded by a 60 lakh project, where he focused on the formulation of iron oxide and gadolinium nanoparticles for induction hyperthermia applications in cancer therapy.
  • Dr. Viswanathan’s expertise in cancer research has earned him a place on the PRSG committee of the Department of IT, BT, and Electronics (DEITY), Government of India, where he serves as an expert overseeing cancer nanotechnology research audits at IIT, Mumbai.
