2-3 أيامVATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery) and Open Lobectomy are surgical procedures used to treat various conditions affecting the lungs. These approaches involve the removal of one of the lobes of the lungs, typically to manage lung cancer, infections, or other pulmonary diseases. While both techniques aim for the same outcome, their methodology and recovery differ, providing options tailored to individual patient needs.
VATS Lobectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure where small incisions are made in the chest, allowing the surgeon to insert a thoracoscope (a tiny camera) and specialized instruments. The camera projects high-definition images of the chest cavity onto a monitor, guiding the surgeon in performing the lobectomy. This approach minimizes tissue damage and is often preferred for early-stage lung cancers.
Open Lobectomy, also known as thoracotomy, involves a larger incision along the side of the chest to provide direct access to the lungs. This traditional approach allows the surgeon to operate with a clear view of the affected lung and surrounding structures. Open lobectomy is generally performed in cases requiring greater access or when more complex conditions are involved.

Both procedures are performed to treat conditions such as lung cancer, bronchiectasis, tuberculosis, benign lung tumors, or infections that do not respond to medical therapy. They may also be recommended for patients with damaged lung tissue due to trauma or other chronic conditions. The choice between VATS and Open Lobectomy depends on the severity and location of the issue, as well as the patient's overall health.
VATS offers the advantages of less scarring, reduced pain, and quicker recovery, making it suitable for patients with early-stage disease or those who prefer minimally invasive options. Open Lobectomy remains the preferred method for cases requiring detailed exploration or complex resections. Both procedures carry risks, including bleeding, infection, or complications related to anesthesia, which are managed through careful planning and expert surgical care.
