The VNS surgery is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes one to two hours. A small incision is made in the chest to implant the pulse generator, and another incision is made in the neck to attach electrodes to the vagus nerve. These components are connected via a thin wire that runs under the skin. Once implanted, the device is programmed to deliver electrical impulses at specific intervals tailored to the patient’s condition.
Rechargeable VNS devices represent a significant advancement in medical technology. These devices eliminate the need for frequent replacement surgeries associated with traditional non-rechargeable models.
